Recently, says John Alley, we have been discussing who we are as a people - our call and destiny in Christ. However, says John, we must not neglect or lose sight of our most important purpose and calling, walking with Jesus Christ. Beginning with the letter to the church at Ephesus in the book of Revelation, John reinforces his message with texts from Mark 8, Matthew 6, Philippians 3, Psalm 112 and 2 Corinthians 3. Each of these texts builds on the basis of our need to never lose sight of our first love for God and for other people, to deny self and take up our cross to follow Christ, to seek first the kingdom of God and to focus our eyes upon Jesus. In the words of Mark, “What good is it to gain the whole world, yet forfeit our soul?” This message will stimulate the listener to serious consideration of their individual walk with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
