Jonathan Maxwell delivers a great message, challenging the natural tendency of the human race to focus on self as opposed to the values of sonship that we need to embrace. Jonathan begins with his testimony of moving to Rockhampton to work with his uncle John Alley and the changes and challenges that this wrought in his life. We must listen, says Jonathan, to the right Father – to the Father of light, and not the father of lies. It is when we listen to the father of lies that our feelings and thoughts spiral out of control into the realm of selfishness, bitterness and resentment. Jonathan reminds us of the warnings in Scripture to stay away form the ways of Esau who sold his birthright for a meal. How do we sell our birthright? By choosing to remain in the camp of offense and bitterness rather than walking with our leaders. Jonathan exhorts the listener to find the security, safety and blessing that are found in submission of our hearts to God and to our leaders.
