He Walked in Our Shoes

We have all heard the saying that before we judge someone, we should "walk a mile in their shoes". Philip Alley's message today centres on the incarnation of Christ, when God Himself came in human form and walked "in our shoes". Philip brings forth many Scripture verses that prove that Christ, while fully human, was at the same time fully divine. While Jesus was fully human, He was not merely human. Both the human nature and the divine nature existed in harmony - there was no division in Christ, but perfect unity.

Philip goes on to illustrate from Scripture that the incarnation of Christ is strongly linked with the atonement for our sins. Hebrews 4 tells us that we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our human condition, but one who has gone before us and has shown the way to make Godly choices.

So how are we to live in the light of the incarnation? Philip encourages the listener with Galatians 6:2, which exhorts the believer to carry one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Philip adds the thought that just as Christ came in a human body, the Church embodies the Holy Spirit so that the world can see Christ.
