David Alley today continues his theme of the letters to the churches found in the book of Revelation. Selecting the letters to Sardis and to Philadelphia from Revelation 3, David compares and contrasts the two churches – both in the eyes of the world and the eyes of Christ. While the church of Sardis was located in a very wealthy city and was well regarded in the eyes of the world, Jesus did not find anything that He could commend them for. Philadelphia, on the other hand, was a small church, not highly esteemed by man. But, says David, sometimes God is at work doing great things in places that we don’t even know of. Christ commended them and gave them three promises that would be theirs if they overcame. David concludes his message with a challenge to consider whether we look too much to the opinion of men rather than listening to God’s word and considering how He sees us.
