For many years now we have heard much talk in the media about climate change, sometimes called global warming. Not everyone agrees that the climate is changing, and those who agree are split on whether its caused by humans, or a natural phenomena. This blog is not about any of that.

However this blog is about the global warming of hearts towards Christ, which is something which will truly change the world.

It is common for teachers or child supervisors to select two children, who are "chosen" to be the captains of two teams. Those two children feel special at having been chosen, and then they proceed to select their teams based on what is best for them, a team they hope will be a winning team. Ultimately there are always a few children chosen last who feel unwanted.

In 1882, the Morgan Brothers started mining a seam of gold on Ironstone Mountain that proved to be incredibly wealthy. Not long after, during the early years, they were pulling in gold at the rate of more than ten ounces per tonne of dirt. The Mt Morgan Gold Mine in Central Queensland ended up being the wealthiest gold mine on the planet at that point, and the royalties paid to the colonial government of Queensland were a great boost in helping the fledgling colonies to federate and become Australia.

There is no better example of a relational maturity than that which exists in the Godhead. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, and they are also three persons. United in thought, heart and mind, of one purpose and agreed in all they do. There is nothing like it anywhere. The unity we find in God gives the world its stability and "in Him we live and move and have our being." (Acts 17:28) . God is that unshakeable entity that gives a solid foundation to everything.

On December 31, 2017, forty-two people from the Peace Christian Church were gathered for prayer to usher in the New Year, which of course was last year. In Ephesians 4:13 it states "This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ." (NLV)

What is going to continue? The previous verses tell us, it is the giving of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. These are the gifts of grace given to the Body of Christ in Christ's ascension. These are not given before Jesus ascended, but in his ascension, that is while he is seated at the Father's right hand in heaven.

Who is the first apostle in the Bible? While it seems that we first find apostles in the gospel accounts when Jesus selected his twelve, actually none of these are first.

The writer of Hebrews tells us to "fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest." (Heb 3:1) Jesus is our first apostle. Jesus is selected as an apostle by His Father in Heaven, and sent to earth as God's representation, as God's ambassador, as God himself.

The outback of Australia is one of the most remote parts of the planet, and also one of the least populated. Over the years a number of ministries have endeavored to reach out to people living in the interior. The most well known of these is probably, Rev John Flynn, from the Presbyterian Inland Mission, who established the Royal Flying Doctors Service. In the above picture you can see the ruins of an early mission building in Birdsville, used by John Flynn as an outback hospital.
